Annapolis, America’s sailing capital, has become the main thing to discuss among charter companies. Why is that? Since 2016, when the first MedCorner opened its doors at the Annapolis Boat Shows, the expansion and recognizability of the Mediterranean charters in America found its solid foundation.
Proportionally the Mediterranean is packed with more and more USA guests sailing one of many beautiful sailing destinations – it’s a two-way street. Whether is it Croatia, Greece, Italy, Turkey or the rest of the Mediterranean, it has come clear that USA tourists want to cross “sailing the Mediterranean” from their bucket lists. And there is no surprise to that.
American charter market is huge and diverse, USA clients are considered to be world’s 2nd largest spenders when it comes to holidays and Annapolis, being situated in Maryland, surrounded with Washington DC and Virginia already covers three of the top ten richest areas in the USA. Mediterranean Corner 2018 showed that the Mediterranean charter companies found their new business oasis called the United States Sailboat Show. It is filled with different business opportunities like direct bookings, collecting over a thousand direct e-mails and reaching US investors. With their efforts combined charter companies presented the Mediterranean sailing areas to more than 5 thousand people passing through the tent. Surely the most interesting part was a raffle program in which participants in the tent can win one of ten free charters at the Mediterranean ensured by exhibiting charter companies. And the best part is a clear return on investment of exhibiting costs at Annapolis for charter companies, that can be seen by having only one booking.

“America is a market full of unexplored business opportunities.” Yacht4You
It is clear that the American charter market showed plenty of business opportunities for the Mediterranean charter companies willing to rise and expand. Exhibiting at the United States Sailboat Show is slowly becoming a MUST for charter companies in order to prevent enormous last minute booking discounts and marinas crowded with sailboats during a high season. As Zoran Brkić from the Adriatic Sailing said after the second year at the Annapolis boat show: “I am now truly loyal, and participating at the United States Sailboat Show for me is no longer questionable.”
